Delhi is the 16th largest state or union territory in India by branch count, with about 2.6% of the country's 179,730 branches. Delhi alone accounts for 3,106 of them, about 66% of the state's total. The widest network here belongs to Punjab National Bank, with 503 branches. 2 towns and cities have a hundred branches or more; the rest are served by a handful each, which is why the branch code matters more than the town name when money is being sent.

Where this data comes from
Branch names, addresses and IFSC codes are taken from the Reserve Bank of India's list of NEFT-enabled branches, snapshot of 2026-08-21. The RBI compiles it from the participating banks themselves, so spellings follow the banks' own records. We normalise state names and city spellings, merge duplicate names for the same city, and exclude administrative entries such as RTGS head offices and service branches from branch counts. Nothing is added to the data. Found something wrong? Write to [email protected].
